What should you expect in GMA Films' newest collaboration with VIVA Films and RGUTZ Productions? A truly scary experience.
Richard Gutierrez reunites with his 'Sigaw' director Yam Laranas, to deliver a brand new take on Filipino horror. If you think alam mo na ang lahat ng puwedeng malaman tungkol sa mga aswang—you better think again. Text by Jason John S. Lim. Photos provided by GMA Films. "Talagang pinaganda po namin 'yung pelikulang ito, at pinaghirapan po namin." Says Richard Gutierrez who is a first-time film producer in Patient X. Dagdag ng actor-producer, "we saw to it na made a good quality film—so sana po mapanood ng maraming tao." Patient X revolves around the character of Lukas Esguerra, portrayed by Richard, na humihingi pa rin ng hustisya sa pagkamatay ng kanyang pamilya. But it is only after 20 years that the police finally catch one of the murderers—na hindi man lang tumanda ni isang araw. The cast of the movie is a revelation. TJ Trinidad gives a haunting performance as Chief Alfred Molina, ang pulis na tumutugis sa mga pumatay sa pamilya ni Lukas; Miriam Quiambao is equally as effective bilang Nurse Betty, ang Head Nurse sa hospital kung saan itinatago ang Patient X. Bilang the titular character, Cristine Reyes breaks the sexy-actress mold she has been associated with since her MariMar days. As for Richard, the film's producer also gives his whole being into portraying his role effectively. "Nung ginagawa [ni Direk Yam Laranas] 'yung istorya, is Richard Gutierrez lang talaga ang naisip niyang gumanap nito," bunyag ni Miss Tracey Garcia of GMA Films, noong press conference ng Patient X. And if the cast had given their one hundred percent, Direk Yam has given more. Mula sa pag-iilaw hanggang sa pagsasaayos ng mga fight scenes, bawat isang eksena ay masugid na binantayan ng director; he introduced to the cast a working environment wherein the actors are given at least eight hours of rest; and he was even able to recreate a derelict building para gawing working hospital for the movie. No detail was left to chance—iyan ang mapapansin ng lahat ng manunuod ng Patient X. But don't take just our word for it; we also asked the cast kung ano sa tingin nila ang dapat ninyong abangan when you watch Patient X: Richard Gutierrez: "Well, abangan nila 'yung siguro 'yung first time na makikita kaming dalawa ni Cristine on one screen—kasi first time namin magkasama dito. I think that's one. And siguro 'yung mga chase scenes." Miriam Quiambao: "Ang abangan nila sa akin, 'yung mag-isa na lang akong naiwan doon sa buong building. Tapos abangan nila 'yung mangyayari kay Nurse Betty." TJ Trinidad: "The burning scene that you see in the trailer? I burned that person—alive. [It] was a live person." Paulo Avelino: "Naku, panoorin niyo kasi, kumbaga, kami nasa set, prosthetics nakikita mismo namin kung paano ginagawa, natatakot na kami. Lalo na sa film! Kasi sobrang in-character lahat ng mga aswang natin. Sobrang nakakatakot at kakaiba. Kakaiba ang concept ng pagiging aswang nila." Patient X also stars Dion Ignacio, Che Ramos and Jhake Vargas.
