Tekashi 6ix9ine to be released from prison

Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine will be released from prison and put under house arrest due to concerns over COVID-19 pandemic.

Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine is set to be released from prison due to concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic. The rapper has asthma, which makes him very vulnerable should he contract the virus.

He is incarcerated in a private facility in New York, epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic in the US.

Entertaiment and gossip site Page Six reports that Tekashi 6ix9ine's lawyer Lance Lazzaro filed a motion for his immediate release citing health concerns.

The request was granted by New York southern district judge Paul Engelmayer on the grounds that the rapper will remain in his home and be monitored via GPS.

He will only be allowed to leave his home to meet his lawyer or to seek medical treatment, with prior notice and approval by a probation officer.

Tekashi 6ix9ine whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, was sentenced to two years in prison last December with charges related to racketeering, narcotics, and firearms.

His sentence was lowered after he agreed to testify against specific members of the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods gang, a notorious New York City street gang. He was set for an early release on July 31.
