Richard Gutierrez shares with iGMA his experiences as a first-time producer. May regrets ba si Richard?
With 'Patient X', not only is Richard Gutierrez reuniting with Direk Yam Laranas since the 2004 hit 'Sigaw', he's also becoming a first-time movie producer! Anu-ano ang maiku-kuwento sa atin ni Richard about being a producer? Basahin at alamin! Text by Jason John S. Lim. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio, and provided by GMA Films. stars"I'm still learning a lot," inamin ni Richard Gutierrez sa press. This was during the press conference of Patient X last October 15, nang tanungin siya ni Kuya Germs kung kamusta ang pagiging first-time producer. "It's my first time to venture into something like this." Lucky for Richard, he's co-producing with GMA Films and VIVA Entertainment. Kaya nga, he adds, "I'm learning a lot from my co-producers—and my colleagues as well." Though, inamin rin ni Richard that his involvement as a producer is more of giving inputs. "I don't force them," he clarifies. "I just give my opinion, my inputs, the best way I can." What he has learned so far though is this: "'yung tricky and the fun part of being a producer is balancing art and commerce." Bilang artista, alam ni Richard that he wants to give spotlight sa art that permeates the film—especially one by Yam Laranas. But as a producer, he also knows that the movie has to make money. "So how do you get the perfect art with a certain amount of money, parang ganoon." Richard adds that he's just happy he's co-producing with some of the production outfits he trusts—like GMA Films. "I've worked with them my entire showbiz career, so I trust them." For Richard, it also helps that his first project as a producer is a film by a director he trusts. "Very organized si Direk Yam," kuwento ng binata. "And it brings out the best in all of us." Tinanong namin, may nag-iba ba sa way ni Direk Yam ng pagdi-direk from Sigaw back in 2004, and with Patient X five years later? Richard tell us, "ever since, he's been organized with filming. But now he has specific constraints with time." He continues, "we can only work for 16 hours, then rest for 8 hours each day." Ayon sa binata, it's a very good work ethic that he wishes more Filipino production outfits follow. "I think it's a great idea; as artists, we're fresh, we can go back into character—and we can unwind a bit before starting another day." He adds, "it can bring out the best in everyone." starsBut it's not just Direk Yam's time constraints that Richard is proud of. "Pati 'yung pag-i-ilaw niya, 'yung camera movements niya—it tells the story. "So hindi lang nanggagaling sa artista 'yung kuwento, pati rin sa side ni Direk Yam." Richard finishes, "ganoon siyang klaseng director." Kaya kung naghahanap ka ng panonoorin sa sinehan, look no further. Patient X is here. "Sulit na sulit po ito, dahil quality film," Richard invites. "And gusto ko rin i-commend lahat ng co-actors ko for a job well done, napakahusay nilang lahat dito. And si Direk Yam. He's trying to lift up the horror genre of the Philippines, and [I think] he's doing a good job of it. Sana po maging successful 'yung Patient X with your help." Patuloy pa rin ang pananakot ng Patient X in theaters nationwide! At pagkatapos manood, pag-usapan ang movie sa pinagandang iGMA Forum! Not yet a member? Register here!
