Cainta Mayor Johnielle 'Kit' Nieto had initiated an out-of-the-box approach to help his constituents who are not covered by the Department of Social Welfare and Development's (DWSD) Special Amelioration Program (SAP): auctioning off his rubber shoes.

Mayor Kit announced this unique initiative on his Facebook page on April 14. According to him, the allocation for Cainta was only around 37,000, but their total population is 320,000.

So, in order to help those who are not included in the DSWD SAP, he thought of putting his personal sneaker collection up for auction.

He further stated that the proceeds may not be that big, but it would still somehow help his constituents who are in great need.

During the first day of auction, Mayor Kit was able to raise a total of PhP 132,000.

On the second day, the fund-raising auction was able to garner a total PhP 249,000.

Some donated more shoes for Mayor Kit's fundraising initiative, including an online reseller and footwear store Sole Republiq.

Also, vlogger and sneakers enthusiast Carlo Ople, who had bought a Travis Scott Jordans size 11 shoes from the auction for PhP 71,000, surprised Mayor Kit by revealing that he had re-auctioned the shoes for PhP 60,000 pesos and will also be donating it to the fundraising endeavor.
