Following the back-to-back discussion about Korean dramas, post-Erik Matti and Direk Joey Reyes, a post from Mon Confiado dating back in 2018 has resurfaced on the Internet.
In the two-year-old post, the actor detailed the many “perks” that Korean Entertainment Industry comes with. That's why according to the actor, “Now I understand why their film industry is booming.”
The main reason? The industry is receiving a lot of support from the government.
He then enumerated the things he observed and learned as he filmed for the 2018 flick, “The Golden Holiday.”
He shared that the South Korean government has mandated that each theater in the county must screen a domestic film for at least 146 days a year. Furthermore, a self-administered body called the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) is responsible for promoting and supporting the film industry on both national and international levels.
Add to that, Mon observed that creativity is encouraged in films and the reinforcement of tradition and culture in movies and dramas is very evident.
He said, “Their approach is that instead of censoring or cutting scenes out, they allow it to be preserved the way the director intended. The film will only depend on the Korean Media Ratings Board (KMRB) to ensure that they won't be seen by impressionable people of a certain age.”
“If you take a look at K-dramas and movies that became popular overseas, you will see that many are period dramas. These dramas do a great deal in promoting Korean history and culture to the outside world.”
Add all these to other factors such as movie making courses, well-paid staff, and enforcement of taxes making the industry every actor's dream.
He then ended the post with a note, “I'm dreaming that one day our film industry will be like this.”
