BTOB member and Korean actor Yook Sungjae has confirmed that he is enlisting in the military on May 11 as part of South Korea's mandatory military service for men.

On May 3, Sungjae posted a letter on Instagram for BTOB fans collectively called "Melodies."

Korean media outlet Soompi posted the letter with translations in English, the letter read:

"Hello, this is Sungjae. First, thank you very, very much to all the Melodies who celebrated my birthday! (I saw all the social media posts, advertisements, and events!).

"I didn't know how to begin saying this so I thought about it for a long time.

"But since I was too far from any deep thoughts or concerns, I decided that the right thing was to tell you as soon as possible.

"You will be very surprised, but I have decided to enlist in the military on May 11!

"There will be people who are surprised at this sudden information, as well as people who are concerned, but because of how much love I've received until now from Melodies, I have the confidence that I will receive love and be happy and healthy no matter where I am! I'm not worried! I will be able to go with a comfortable mindset.

"Because of the continuous enlistment of the BTOB members, there will inevitably be a hiatus, but since Melodies are waiting for us, we will gain strength in thinking of the day we will meet again. There isn't a lot of time left, but I will definitely communicate with Melodies through a live broadcast, and the other hyungs will be out soon, and 'Mystic Pop-Up Bar' will premiere soon, so please be patient and wait. The day that BTOB and Melodies meet again will arrive soon!

"Thank you for everything until now, and I ask for your continued support in the future! Until the day I return with an even better image, I hope that you will spend every day happy and healthy. From, Sungjae."

According to Soompi, a source from Cube Entertainment confirmed to News1 that Yook Sungjae would be enlisting for the military and shall serve as an active-duty soldier from May 11.

The exact time and location of his enlistment would not be made public.

In 2018, BTOB's leader Eunkwang was the first BTOB member to enlist in the military, followed shortly by other members Changsub and Minhyuk.

Eunkwang was discharged in March 2020 according to the military's COVID-19 protocol.

In March 2020, Yook Sungjae stepped down from his variety program “Master in the House” and said he wanted to take some time off before his military enlistment.

In 2013, Yook Sungjae made his acting debut in drama Monstar. He then starred in dramas Reply 1994, Who Are You: School 2015, and The Lonely and Great God - Goblin.
