On May 5, 1978, 'Voltes V' began airing on GMA.

Exactly 42 years ago, at 6 pm, Filipinos from all over the archipelago turned the channel dial to GMA-7 as they eagerly anticipated a new Japanese super robot named “Voltes V.”

Yep, you read that right. On May 5, 1978, “Voltes V” was first aired on GMA in the English language which created a major impact among Filipino viewers, especially the children.

It was such a phenomenon back then that it eventually became a household favorite.

The popularity of the anime robot also boomed merchandise and memorabilia in the Philippines with t-shirts, pencils, notebooks, and die-cast toys selling like hotcakes.

But just when people started enjoying the show, then President Ferdinand Marcos issued a directive banning Voltes V citing “excessive violence” and “harmful effects on children” as the main reason.

Now, more than four decades later, GMA is once again rekindling that sensation with the live adaptation of the beloved anime with Voltes V: Legacy.

Voltes V: Legacy will be directed by Mark Reyes and will be produced here in the Philippines by GMA in partnership with Riot Inc. Post Production with the supervision and approval by TOEI.

In an earlier report, GMA will be adopting a similar format of shooting and post-production work of the entire series before even episode one goes on air, similar to what is being done internationally.

This means high-quality episodes with great CGI, direction, and script.
