Tom Cruise in outer space

NASA confirmed that Tom Cruise and Elon Musk are working on a project to shoot a film in outer space.

Mission impossible? Not for Hollywood actor Tom Cruise as he is set to blast off in space, with the help of Tesla founder Elon Musk, for his upcoming movie.

The pair is reportedly working on an out-of-this-world project with the help of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

His set? The International Space Station (ISS), which is a habitable artificial satellite located about 250 miles above Earth.

The news was even confirmed by NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine in a tweet made on May 6.

He wrote, “NASA is excited to work with @TomCruise on a film aboard the @Space_Station! We need popular media to inspire a new generation of engineers and scientists to make @NASA's ambitious plans a reality.

The tweet received a lot of praise with more than 28K likes and 5,000 retweets.

Among the more than 900 comments is Elon Musk who replied, “Should be a lot of fun!”

Tom Cruise, who's currently 56 years old, is known for doing his own stunts.

He got his commercial piloting license after his role in “Top Gun” as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, a US Navy pilot known for his dangerous and reckless flying style.

Although little to no detail is yet known about the project, Tom will be the very first Hollywood actor to appear on-screen from outside the planet's atmosphere if the movie pushes through.

His hit franchise “Mission: Impossible” is set to hit screens next year following the production delay due to the coronavirus pandemic.
