Centerstage judge Pops Fernandez couldn't help but look back at her career in GMA when she was asked to share her proudest Kapuso moment with GMANetwork.com.
For the 53-year-old singer and host, if there's one thing that defined her as a Kapuso, it's hosting the defunct late-night talk show The Penthouse Live with former husband Martin Nievera.
She tells us, “My best Kapuso moment has to be when we did The Penthouse Live!.
“I guess that's the biggest turnaround as far as my career is concerned kasi doon talaga ako napansin, nabigyan ng napakalaking break, and I'm very grateful for that. It totally changed who Pops Fernandez is.”
Pops confessed that she was still quite unsure of herself back then and yet it was GMA who supported her through and through.
“When I started, napakabata pa po ako noon,” she says.
“I wasn't sure of myself, I was very scared, I was very young, and I didn't quite know what I wanted to do.
“I already started singing, did one or two movies, and then I landed a co-hosting job in The Penthouse Live! -- it was very unexpected. I didn't think I could do a late-night show.
“Napakabata ko pa po noon para mag-host and again, we did it.”
She also mentioned that the late-night talk show has paved the way for artists and singers like her to enter a career in show business.
Adding, “We can also say that The Penthouse Live! changed the format of talk shows because it was a talk show slash dance show slash naging way po siya for a lot of artists. So it opened a lot of doors for singers, dancers, so nakaka-proud po talaga siya.”
