Exactly two years after their first speech at the United Nations General Assembly, K-pop phenomenon BTS once again graced the annual conference to speak about hope and encouragement despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Wednesday, BTS was invited by the Group of Friends of Solidarity for Global Health Security.

Launched by South Korea in 2020, the organization aims to discuss health security issues including COVID-19.

But due to the world crisis, the assembly was held through virtual meetings and pre-recorded speeches.

In their speech, all seven members--RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook --- described their struggles during the pandemic.

“COVID-19 was beyond my imagination,” RM said.

“Our world tour was canceled, our plans went away, and I became alone. I looked up but couldn't see the stars at night.”

Continuing the message was Jimin who said, “I felt hopeless and everything fell apart. I could only look outside my window, I could only go to my room.

“Yesterday, I was singing and dancing with fans around the world, and now my world had shrunk to a room.”

Suga echoed, “The room itself was small, but my world and our world reached far and wide. In this world, we had our instruments, our phones, and our fans."

While the group remains connected with fans through virtual concerts and the release of their Billboard Hot 100 hit “Dynamite,” they got candid about their challenges as an individual during the crisis.

“I was frustrated and depressed,” said V.

“But I took notes, wrote songs, and thought who I was. I thought, 'If I give up here, then I'm not the star of my life. This is what an awesome person would do.'”

J-Hope shared that despite all this, the group came together and rediscovered the voice they thought they lost.

“We embraced all these emotions and the seven of us began to make music together. This is where the music came from, and this made us honest,” he said.

Jin added that the most important thing he learned was to embrace the present.

He shared, “Thinking about the future and trying hard are all important. But cherishing yourself, encouraging yourself, and keeping yourself happy is the most important.

“In a world of uncertainty, we must cherish the importance of me, you, and us. That's the message of 'Love Myself' and it's the message in the lyrics of our song 'Dynamite.'”

Finally, Jungkook said, “Our songs became the stories we wanted to tell each other. We live in uncertainty, but really, nothing's changed.

“If there's something I can do, if our voices can give strength to people, then that's what we want and that's what we'll keep on doing.”

In 2017, BTS launched the “Love Myself” anti-violence campaign in partnership with UNICEF.

The next year, the group raise more than $1 million for UNICEF.

This time BTS's message continues to give hope to the many generations that are touched by their music. As they said, “Life goes on, and let's live on.”
