Alden Richards warned netizens about fraudulent online gamers posing as charity streams in order to swindle donations for their personal gain.
Alden has been maximizing the use of technology especially this quarantine.
According to the Asia's Multimedia Star, he has particularly turned to online gaming for his own mental health.
He revealed, “Ako po, doon po ako talaga naging really immersed into playing games, online games kasi nawawala talaga 'yung oras eh. Nawawala na hindi ko naiisip 'yung problema ngayon especially 'yung pandemic na sobrang laking stress 'yung dinulot sa atin.
"'Yun po 'yung pinaka-outlet ko basically. Doon ko po na-maintain 'yung sanity ko, by doing that.”
Moreover, his AR gaming became the platform for interaction with his fans and followers now that physical distancing is still strictly imposed due to COVID-19.
He said, “Siyempre I'm also in touch with other supporters din po all over the world and dito sa atin, and they're really grateful po doon sa online game streaming kasi parang 'yun po 'yung nag-compensate sa mall shows and out of the country shows na kumbaga kahit hindi nila kami nakikita physically, andiyan naman 'yung online.
"Actually ang dami naman po talagang online platforms ngayon where you can do shows and you know, be in touch with your supporters all over the world.
"So parang 'yun na rin po 'yung way of connecting with them, live kahit hindi man in person, and at the same time be in touch with them while doing one of the things that I love most which is gaming po.”
Aside from being the new normal for engagements, Alden made use of his online game streaming for his advocacies. In fact, just recently, the Kapuso star led a charity stream that raised over P220,000 for the victims of typhoon Ulysses.
He shared, “I'm just really happy na nakapag-raise ako ng ganung funds through one of the things that I love doing which is gaming. Napakita rin natin doon that our supporters really support our cause, kung ano 'yung mga gusto nating ipagbigay-alam sa kanila.”
He, together with his AR gaming team and fellow gamers, is also working on distributing their donations to the victims by this week.
The Asia's Multimedia Star added, “'Yung mga kasama kong naglalaro and my other gaming friends will be reaching out sa mga taong naapektuhan nung disaster na 'yun.”
Meanwhile, Alden also reminded netizens to be cautious of making online donations as other gamers or poseurs are using the platform for their personal advantage.
He related the news of scammers, saying, “Ang dami kong nare-receive na message coming from gaming friends na [other game streamers, who turn out to be scammers] make a charity stream for a cause and then later use the money for personal use. I mean, I highly discourage that.
“I'd like to take this chance na rin to give [a message] sa mga taong mababait talaga 'yung puso na gustong tumulong sa mga nangangailangan, na wala naman dito, especially the ones abroad.
"Let's be careful kung sino 'yung bibigyan natin ng donations and kung sino talaga 'yung nagsi-stream for a cause na meron talagang pinagdadalhan 'yung mga nakukuha nila on that day sa stream.
"Sorry for the word pero ang dami pong nanloloko ngayon. Nakakalungkot isipin.”
Aside from taking advantage of AR gaming, Alden is also the first to utilize the cutting-edge technology of virtual reality for his upcoming concert titled 'Alden's Reality' happening on December 8, 2020.
This is his way of giving back to his fans and supporters as he celebrates his 10th year in the showbiz industry.
