Anime theme songs play a big part in setting the tone of an anime series. It helps set the stage and builds the excitement even before the first scene comes up.
And when it comes to anime songs, nothing elicits both excitement and nostalgia than the music of Voltes V.
The classic Japanese anime series is so memorable, so iconic, that we instantly recognized it even with just a few bars.
Speaking of which, a new cover circulating on the Internet has caught the ears of even non-Voltes V fans.
The cover was done by Lanie Marcelino, with the video uploaded on her Facebook and YouTube channel.
Her rendition though was unique as she used a kalimba to breathe new life into the music.
A kalimba is a modern mbira (a musical instrument popular in Africa) designed with a soundbox and metal keys attached to the top. It is played by using both thumbs to pluck the end of the metal keys or tongues to produce sounds.
Lanie did a cover of Voltes V's opening and ending theme songs, showcasing the rich sounds of the kalimba in the process.
Her cover of the anime series' intro music has been shared on the Facebook group Voltes V The Documentary and has been shared 105 times as of this writing.
