The French electronic music duo Daft Punk has called it quits.
Formed in 1993 in Paris, the pair of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo created a number of memorable dance and pop tunes throughout their 28-year run.
Some of the hits popularized by Daft Punk include “One More Time,” “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger,” and “Around the World.”
Daft Punk - whose robot and helmet outfits became its trademark - was also known for its collaboration with other well-known artists such as Nile Rodgers and Pharrell Williams for “Get Lucky,” and The Weeknd for “Starboy” and “I Feel It Coming.”
The group announced its disbandment with an 8-minute video titled “Epilogue” uploaded on its YouTube channel.
Daft Punk's longtime publicist Kathryn Frazier confirmed the breakup to various news outlets but declined to give more information.
News about the group's split immediately spread and elicited various reactions from fans all over the world.
Electronic music would've been a whole lot different without Daft Punk. Definitely going to miss them, but thank you guys for everything. pic.twitter.com/M0OwaB1ajQ

I pixeled a little fan art about 2 weeks ago, and I was trying to figure out when to post it here. I suppose today is that day. Thank you for everything, Daft Punk 😟❤️ pic.twitter.com/hQ4SgFwCsu

Meanwhile, American comedian and TV host Stephen Colbert wrote a funny reaction in tune with the times:
I feel like someone should tell Daft Punk this is literally the worst time to hang up your masks.

Pinoy rapper Gloc-9 was also saddened by the news and posted this image on Instagram to pay homage to the influential duo:
Daft Punk released four records, namely, Homework (1997), Discovery (2001), Human After All (2005), and Random Access Memories (2013).
The electronic duo amassed a total of 13 awards from various major music award giving bodies including the Grammys, Austin Film Critics Association, Brit Awards, Sweden GAFFA Awards, and MTV Europe.
“We are part of the older generation in a way, where people were still selling millions of records. We've been fortunate enough to introduce our name at a time when it was maybe an easier process than now. And we're fortunate enough to still be able to make a living and go on tour and work on experimental projects,” Bangalter said in a 2007 interview.
“We really tried so far to stay out of exclusive deals: 'Robot Rock' was on last week's Entourage and 'Technologic' was in an iPod commercial.
“That's just part of the culture. We don't reject it. It can be the soundtrack for everyday life. We're happy to be part of it. But so far, we're not officially sponsored by a brand on an exclusive basis.”
