Chris Evans

Get ready, 'Avengers' fans because Chris Evans is confirmed to meet his Filipino fans soon.

A week after being named as Smart Communication's latest ambassador, Chris Evans got to speak with a few members of the press to talk about why he joined the partnership and does he plan on visiting the Philippines soon.

With regard to his partnership with the telco giant, the Captain America star shares that it was the brand's ideals that prompted him to say yes to the campaign.

He said, “Well, I always liked the idea of working with a company in the Philippines. It's a great part of the world and Smart felt like a forward-thinking company. So I think it's a good fit.

“What do I know about the Philippines? Well, I've heard great beaches, I've heard that today. Great food, great people, every time there's an Asian territory it's always hard to leave because it's welcoming, aesthetically beautiful.”

Because the latest campaign is all about living smarter to provide a better world for the future, Chris was asked to discuss the smartest and the most foolish thing he's done throughout his lifetime.

“Smartest thing I've ever done is adopt my dog,” he said.

“We shot a scene in Savannah, Georgia and there was a shelter and he was there. I wasn't planning on adopting a dog but it was the best decision I've ever made.

“As for the most foolish thing, the list is long and I probably couldn't tell you. But what's a nice answer? I'll say the dumbest thing I've ever done, I quit drum lessons when I was younger and I wish I had stuck with that.”

In line with the campaign, he also encourages his fans to read more most especially now that fake news is evident in today's society.

He added, “It's really easy for us to think about the issues we are going through as a country, as the world really. It's somehow unique to this moment when the truth is when you read history a lot of these things tend to repeat.

“You get a lot of information not just to address what is going on but it opens up your understanding and compassion.”

This led him to discuss his platform, A Starting Point, where elected officials can discuss their policies without being attacked by the press and media.

Chris said, “Well, it was born out of recognizing in a world of misinformation -- that it's really hard to have a political discussion because most people are coming from their own set of facts and information.

“I think the most intuitive way to race against that would be getting the information from the elected officials directly from themselves to the electorate so we have an understanding of who the people are in the office and what they believe.”

Speaking of fake news, Chris also discussed his favorite apps and technology with the press in the hour-long virtual press conference.

For one, he's not a really big fan of social media apps because it makes him “a little sad.”

He explains, “I'm not a big fan of social media apps in general and I'm only on Twitter and Instagram. I mean, what are the other ones? Facebook, I'm not on Facebook but I do know there's a Facebook page for me but I had nothing to do with it.

“Um… I mean, I'm new to Instagram. I suppose I use Twitter the most. It's tough to choose a favorite because they all make me just a little sad.”

And lastly, will he ever visit the Philippines?

It's a resounding yes from Chris and Smart Communications President and CEO Alfredo S. Panlilio who said that they're just waiting for the travel restrictions to be lifted.

Mr. Panlilio said, “Yes! We'd love to.

“I had a conversation with him and he has an open invitation to visit the Philippines and even bring him to Amanpulo. Hopefully, when the travel restrictions have been lifted, we'd love to bring him here.”

Meanwhile, Chris said, “I can't wait to get out there. I can't wait to visit, I've heard so many wonderful things and this partnership makes me more excited to come and say hi.”
