Ranelyn malnourished girl in KMJS

Ranelyn's simple wish is to fit into her old dresses again after losing so much weight because of her illness.

Ranelyn used to be an energetic kid who loves to sing and dance in her hometown of Bantayan Island, Cebu.

Currently, at only 6 years old, she is struggling for her life after getting sick from an infection that led to chronic malnutrition.

According to a report by Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, Ranelyn was a healthy girl who loved wearing dresses, but she suddenly began losing too much weight, causing her cheeks to appear sunken and her ribs to protrude from her chest.

Her weight is now just 7 kilograms, similar to that of a seven-month-old baby. Ranelyn is now unable to do anything more than lie down. Her loss of appetite was worsened by pain from consistent mouth sores.

She felt tremendous guilt for her daughter's situation and blamed herself. "Akin na lang sana 'yan. Akin ngang sinisi aking sarili.

Parang biglaan talaga."

Jerlyn and Raul have been struggling to make ends meet after they both lost their jobs when the pandemic hit.

The couple sold their household items, such as their television and cell phone to have their daughter checked in a clinic. However, their local doctor said her condition would be better treated at a bigger facility.

Thankfully, the KMJS team brought Ranelyn to a bigger health facility in Lapu-Lapu City where the hospital offered Ranelyn's first confinement and other initial hospital bills for free.

Upon examination, Ranelyn was diagnosed with intestinal parasitism and showed signs of pneumonia with her oxygens dropping to around 87%.

According to the physician, it will take a long treatment process for Ranelyn to fully heal and recover from her infections and her parents would have to find a way to cover Ranelyn's medical necessities.
