The legendary musician was admired for his unorthodox, passionate style of guitar playing.
Filipino guitar legend Noli Aurillo passed away on October 16. He was 62.
Noli reportedly succumbed to COVID-19 after catching the virus a week before his passing.
Born in Tacloban, Leyte, Aurillo thrilled and moved music fans with his unconventional style of playing guitar, giving songs such as Queen's “Bohemian Rhapsody,” The Doors' “Light My Fire,” “Strawberry Fields Forever” by The Beatles, and even Madonna's “Material Girl,” a fresh, odd, but passionate arrangements.
Noli was also known for serving as a session musician for the iconic folk band Asin inside the studio.
Young guitarists and musicians endearingly called him “Señor,” a testament to his virtuosity and standing among fellow local guitar gods such as Jun Lopito and Wally Gonzalez of Juan de la Cruz fame, among a few.
Some of his notable achievements included the classical and jazz opus '”All Roads Lead Home,” arranging the scoring of the 1988 American film Saigon Commandos, and his 2006 solo album titled Meanderings: The Prelude.
