GMA Network and publishing powerhouse, One Mega Publishing Group have formally joined forces as they signed a six-program international broadcast license deal last January 29, 2013. These programs produced by One Mega will exclusively air internationally in GMA Life TV.

Representing GMA at the contract signing were Joseph Francia, GMA International VP and Head of Operations; Cheri Domingo, Head of International Programming; and Donna Reyes, Assistant Manager for Events. Joining them were One Mega Group founder and CEO, Sari Yap; One Mega AVP for Multi-Platform Sales and Marketing, Archie Carrasco; and the internationally-renowned producer and One Mega Head of TV Department, Michael Carandang.

GMAI’s Francia believes that the partnership with One Mega Group will boost viewership. “This is basically a continuation of our third year of partnership with the Mega group…[This covers] six programs of the Mega group that will air on GMA Life TV, one of the three international channels of GMA. [These] are a very good fit to the programming ng GMA Life TV, because it’s a lifestyle channel at iyong magagandang programa ng Mega ay gusto din nating ma-enjoy ng mga kababayan natin sa ibang bansa.” He noted that there are already more than one million viewers of GMA Life TV all over the world.

Meanwhile, the One Mega Group is thankful for the opportunity, and excited for Filipinos to be able to watch the six shows produced by Mega. These include I Am Meg TV Season 1, Appetite TV Season 1, My Home TV Season 2, Mega Fashion Crew Season 2 and Mega Young Designers Competition Season 2. “Mega ang pioneer ng glossy magazines. Now, gusto naming maging glossy ang reality TV. Gusto naming gumawa dito ng mga hindi pa rin nagagawa ng mga networks which is fashion reality TV,” Yap of the One Mega Group said.

Carandang, America’s Next Top Model producer, added, “The roster this year is something we’re really proud of. We’re most proud about the message that the Philippines is the place to be, the place to grow and succeed.”

Getting to work with creative minds in the Philippines has greatly influenced his approach to producing new shows. “I celebrate this milestone every single day when I go to work. You have no idea how much I learn just to come to work and figure out the business here. That’s why I’m very happy with this partnership because I learn to figure out the key to make sure that each show continues.”

Tapping into the viewing habits and preferences of Filipinos abroad, the Mega-produced shows to be featured in GMA Life TV feature content that are cutting-edge yet relatable. Carandang, who once directed the GMA Pinoy TV program, RSVP with Dr. Tess says, “Laking America po ako so for me, napakaimportante to have access to GMA Pinoy TV and GMA Life TV because that’s our connection to the Philippines. ‘Yung mga second generation Filipinos abroad can relate to the shows since ‘yung format naman po namin is Taglish. Kung nakakaintindi sila ng kaunting Tagalog, maiintindihan nila iyong show.”

Yap also believes that through the shows, “nakikita nilang sa Pilipinas, world class din ‘yung nangyayari. ‘Yung mga fashion show, damit and photography abroad, ganoon din dito.”

At the core of the partnership of GMA and One Mega are the values they share. In Francia’s words, “We work together to bring out the best in the Filipino.” -- Samantha Portillo, GMANetwork.com
