The 64th Grammy Awards has been pushed back to an indefinite date due to the “uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant,” The Recording Academy and CBS announced in a joint statement published on Wednesday, January 5.
“The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remain our top priority,” they wrote.
Originally slated to take place in Los Angeles on January 31, the organizers have decided against pushing through because of the health risks and concerns caused by the heavily infectious COVID-19 variant.
“We look forward to celebrating Music's Biggest Night on a future date, which will be announced soon,” they added.
Jazz musician Jon Batiste dominated this year's Grammy nominations with a total of 11 nods, while Filipino-American artists H.E.R., Olivia Rodrigo, Saweetie, Bruno Mars, and Robert Lopez vie for their respective golden gramophones.
Last year, the Grammy Awards was also postponed from January to March due to a surge in COVID-19 cases. The 63rd edition, its first awarding ceremony during the pandemic, was attended by a relatively smaller in-person audience.
