The 10th Golden Screen Awards for Movies acknowledged the cream of the crop in Philippine Cinema. Several Kapuso stars were recognized by the prestigious award-giving body during ceremonies held last April 27 at Teatrino in Greenhills, San Juan.



The 10th Golden Screen Awards for Movies acknowledged the cream of the crop in Philippine Cinema. Several Kapuso stars were recognized by the prestigious award-giving body during ceremonies held last April 27 at Teatrino in Greenhills, San Juan.

Bagging the top awards in acting are veteran actress and director, Gina Alajar and Asia’s Songbird, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid. Alajar won Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role –Drama for the film, Mater Dolorosa, while Velasquez-Alcasid won Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role-Musical or Comedy for the film, Of All the Things. Aga Muhlach also took home the Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role-Musical or Comedy for the same film.

Other Kapuso stars who took home acting awards include rising stars, Kristoffer Martin and Sef Cadayona. Martin, who currently stars in GMA Afternoon Prime, Kakambal ni Eliana, was awarded Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for his work in the film, Oros. Party Pilipinas and Bubble Gang mainstay Sef Cadayona was given the distinction of Best Breakthrough Performance by an Actor for the film, Gayak.

Kapuso leading men Dennis Trillo and Sid Lucero were among the chosen few who joined the ranks of Tirso Cruz III and Aga Muhlach as Dekada Awardees. Trillo won Best Breakthrough Performance in 2004 and Best Supporting Actor in 2009. Lucero won Best Breakthrough Performance in 2003, and Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2010.

Kapuso actresses Eugene Domingo and Ara Mina were also recipients of the Dekada Award. Domingo won Best Actress in a Supporting Role in 2007, and Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2009 and 2011. Mina won Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2003, and Best Actress in a Supporting Role in 2004.

Newest Kapuso singing sensation Christian Bautista, who is celebrating his 10th year in showbiz, serenaded the Best Actress Dekada Awardees during the glamorous event.

Also recognized at the event were Jun Lana, who was awarded Best Director, Best Story and Best Original Screenplay for his Cinemalaya film, Bwakaw, and Dave Yu of Mothership, who won Best Visual/Special Effects for his work in Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles. -- Samantha Portillo, GMANetwork.com
