TikTok star Bella Poarch opened up about her desire to go back to the Philippines in an interview on GMA's 24 Oras Weekend.
In an interview with Nelson Canlas for “Chika Minute,” Bella became emotional talking about contributing to Filipino representation and then shared that she has been planning to visit the country since last year.
“Talaga, gusto ko na talagang umuwi since last year. Alam ko 'yung pandemic talaga it has been very hard for us but soon talaga uuwi talaga ako," Bella said.
The TikTok star, who has 91 million subscribers and is the third most followed person on the platform, was born in Pangasinan to two Filipino parents before being adopted by her American adoptive father and a Filipino adoptive mother who had settled in the Philippines and raised her and her adoptive siblings in a farm.
In a podcast, Bella had earlier revealed that she had been verbally and physically abused by her father, even when they migrated to the United States when she was 14. Bella was only able to escape from the abuse when she joined the American Navy when she was 17.
"When I was 17 I decided to join the Navy because I wanted to just be independent on my own. And I was so surprised in like, how many Filipinos were in the military? Like what?" she shared in the 24 Oras Weekend interview.
Bella has been able to use the abuse she suffered in her songs, such as “Build a Bitch,” which peaked at 56th place on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and received a platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America.
