There is not a single doubt about Sparkle artist Kyline Alcantara's ongoing success. She's graced countless magazine covers, become the face of numerous brands and respectable organizations, and even recently started a video podcast with her special friend Mavy Legaspi.

But, did you know that before she turned into one of the biggest stars of today, she also faced discrimination as a child actress?

Various magazine cover stories have already been written about Kyline's hardships as she was starting to make a name in the showbiz industry but it was in her vodcast with Mavy that she shared a specific story that formed her eagerness and determination to become a respectable artist that she is today.

In a recent episode of “MavLine on Me,” Mavy got real for a moment with Kyline and asked her what specific instance did she realize that she wanted to be an actress. Kyline shares, “First of all nanggagaling s'ya sa passion, sa pagmamahal ko sa acting, sa craft. Pero yung nag-push talaga sa'kin na, “Oh, I want to be known in this industry. I wanted to be respected sa industry,” nag start sya sa isang director. Pinahiya ako at hindi lang ako kung hindi si mama sa gitna mismo ng set, sa harap ng lahat ng tao.”

“So nung time na 'yun dini-discriminate ako na probinsyana ako dahil maitim ako, dahil bungi ako, dahil hindi ako marunong magsalita ng Tagalog pa masyado nung time na -yun. So kinoll out ako nung director, sabi n'ya, “O bakit ganyan pananalita mo? Hindi ba talent ka? Hindi ba dapat ayus ayusin mo 'yan,” Kyline states.

Apart from that being pointed out to her, Kyline's mother was also called into the argument. She shares, “Tapos [sabi ng director], 'O asan ba magulang nito?' pumunta si mama, 'Ikaw, hindi mo ba tinuturuan yung anak mo? Magsalita ka nga,' ginanon! So yun yung parang motivation, yun yung kick na ah hindi ko hahayaan na ganito ako, yung nanay ko, or yung pamilya ko tratuhin ng ibang tao, so I worked really hard.”

And now, even though she's still modest in claiming her success, Kyline has become an unforgettable name in the industry and yet remains to be the humble person that she is.
