Despite the still ongoing pandemic, the 2022 Metro Manila Film Festival can be considered “a certified box-office hit” as it reached its target gross sales of PhP 500 million.
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and MMFF Overall Chairman Atty. Romando Artes made the announcement in a Facebook post on January 9.
“Rest assured that the MMFF will exert all efforts by encouraging our stakeholders, especially the local entertainment industry, to create quality films. I urge each and every one of you to patronize Filipino films,” the chairman said.
Of the eight films shown during the festival from December 25, 2022 to January 7, 2023, Chairman Rolando announced that the top four films, in alphabetical order, were Deleter, Family Matters, Labyu with an Accent, and Partners in Crime.
Aside from the successful MMFF, the public was also able to enjoy the Parade of the Stars, an event where eight floats representing each movie gathered in Quezon City for the first time since the pandemic, as last year's parade was done on ferry boats traveling from the Guadalupe ferry station to Circuit Makati.
With the success of the 2022 MMFF, Rolando also announced that they will be pushing through with the launch of the Summer Film Festival in April. The spin-off festival was supposed to be launched in 2020 but had to be delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We will release the deadline of submission of entries as early as we can so that interested producers and filmmakers may be guided accordingly,” Rolando said.
The MMFF chairman also said that the Parade of the Stars for the Summer Film Fest will be held on April 1 and the awards night on April 11.
Meanwhile, the Metro Manila Summer Festival itself will run from April 8 to 18.
