One of SEVENTEEN's maknaes (youngest) Seungkwan is celebrating his 25th birthday today, January 16, and to thank his Carats for being there since debut, the main vocal of the group gifted his fans with a surprise!

Seungkwan dropped his somber and heartfelt cover of Girls' Generation's Taeyeon's solo B-side song “Time Lapse” and explains that an accompanying music video wasn't provided so that Carats can get to bask in the track.

Taeyeon's sentimental song is centric on a person's standstill feelings about another person despite the changing seasons. Seungkwan explains why he chose the song and says, “This is a song that I first discovered when I was 20 years old and have listened to countless times since, but every time I hear it, it's a song that makes me feel so many different emotions. Some days, it makes me feel overwhelmed and choked up, as if I'd burst into tears at the slightest touch, while on other days, it brings me peace and strength so that I can start anew.”

The main vocal of the boy band admits that he had a difficult time singing the song because of his attached feelings towards it but was happy he pushed through. He states, “These days, my desire to do better [at singing] is growing. Regardless of whether I sing well or not, I too want to become a voice that can make CARATs feel many different emotions. It's okay if this song brings you comfort, and it's also okay if the song isn't comforting and just feels sad to you.”

This isn't the first time Seungkwan covered one of Taeyeon's songs as he also released his rendition of her track “Drawing our moments” in the past. It is safe to assume that the singer is an avid fan of Taeyeon.

Seungkwan and his fellow BSS members DK and Hoshi are also making a highly-anticipated comeback this February with the release of the unit's first single album Second Wind.
