Former Hotdog vocalist and acoustic guitarist Glen Mapue's song 'Martilyo' is a must-add to your playlist!
The all-new online music show Spotlight Music Sessions featured Glen Mapue as he performed his original song "Martilyo” on Friday, January 20.
In an exclusive interview with GMANetwork.com, the singer-songwriter shared the story behind his heart-touching single.
According to Glen, his song 'Martilyo' pays tribute to his father who passed away years ago.
“Bago ko nagawa 'yung song na 'yan, nakikinig ako ng song ni Sean Lennon na 'Smoke and Mirrors' then naisip ko na wala pa akong nagagawang kanta para kay erpat na that time is nine years nang nag-pass away. So naging center nung idea is about dun sa work niya na bumuhay sa'min, nag-isip ako ng magandang words na related sa karpintero,” he explained.
When asked about how he started his music career, Glen answered, “Nagsimula ang aking music career last 2002. Natugtog ako sa isang variety band tapos nakabyahe mula 2004 hanggang 2011. Tapos after that nag-start na ako talaga sa passion ko na songwriting. Nagsimula muna ako sa indie productions na tutugtog sa mga bars and exposure lang na marinig 'yung mga songs ko na nilikha. Then nadiscover na ako noong 2015 ng GMA Music, doon na nagsimula lahat.”
In 2016, Glen released his first album titled "Taksil" under GMA Music. Included in his debut album are his tracks "Taksil," "Sikreto," "Himbing," "Bigote Groove," "Losing Gravity" and "Haybol."
Glen also shared his greatest achievement as a musician.
“Biggest achievement siguro as a musician is 'yung makabyahe ako sa ibang bansa saka 'yung ma-back-up-an mo as a guitarist 'yung mga celebrity tapos maging miyembro ka ng isa sa pioneer ng Manila Sound nung 1970's na Hotdog,” he said.
Some Kapuso stars already gave life to Glen's original compositions including Jeric Gonzales who got a chance to showcase his talent by performing his own rendition of Glen's "Taksil" and Derrick Monasterio who interpreted his song "Bato Balani."
Music is really in the blood of Glen because aside from being a singer-songwriter and guitarist, he's also a musical arranger. He's the man behind Asia's Multimedia Star Alden Richards' version of 'One Way' by Hillsong Worship.
Glen Mapue is also part of the OPM band Liquor Lips together with Sancho Camacho, Bobby Calica, and Pongky Ijiran.
