
Korean actor Yoo Ah-in has tested positive for marijuana usage after undergoing a drug test as part of an investigation into his alleged illegal use of anesthetic medication propofol.
A Soompi article reported that South Korean police were prompted to probe Ah-in's alleged illegal drug use. An investigation was conducted during his return to South Korea from the United States, his urine and hair samples were tested, with the urine testing positive for cannabis. Results from his hair sample have not yet been announced, accoring to officials.
Additionally, police officials searched through clinics in Gangnam and Yongsan on February 8 and 9, for medical record evidence that Yoo had been taking propofol since 2021. The investigation was requested by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and fulfilled by the drug investigation unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.
His agency, United Arts Agency, promised that they would be “actively cooperating” with all the necessary investigations.
News of Ah-in's rumored propofol use were first reported on South Korea's TV Chosun's News9, when a blind item came out saying that a popular Korean actor had undergone police investigation over alleged propofol use.
Propofol is a medication usually used alongside general anesthesia. It slows down brain activity and is used to keep patients asleep during medical procedures. It is a controlled substrance in South Korea.
Ah-in is an acclaimed actor, creative director, and gallerist. He starred as Jeong Jin-su in Netflix fantasy horror series Hellbound, and zombie film #Alive. His other notable projects include Burning, Punch, Secret Affair, The Throne, Veteran, and Voice of Silence.
