Fall in love with Garrett Bolden's 'Ikaw Pala.'
Kapuso soul balladeer and The Clash alumnus Garrett Bolden dropped a live performance of his newest single “Ikaw Pala” on Spotlight Music Sessions.
The all-new online music show featured former Clasher and soul balladeer Garrett Bolden performing his newest single “Ikaw Pala” live on Friday, March 3.
Part of his debut album Chapters released in January 2023, the song talks about finally finding the right person to love that will surely make everyone fall in love again.
In an exclusive interview with GMANetwork.com, Garret revealed that The Clash was his last resort to boost his singing career after joining several contests and auditions and not making the cut.
“Actually last resort ko na yung pagsali ng The Clash kasi sobrang dami ko nang in-auditionan na mga contests before so sabi ko, 'Sige ta-try ko na lang itong The Clash' pero parang hindi ko na tinaasan yung hope ko,” he said.
The soul balladeer admitted starting out late in his music career as he was already 16 when he did and said that it was his way of coping with being different at the time.
He recalled, “Sabi ko, 'I wanted to sing, I wanted to explore my singing talent,' and that's when I really started singing sa mga school programs, sa choir, so that's how I really started singing.”
His first genre when he started singing was ballad, songs of Martin Nievera and Gary Valenciano until he was influenced by international singers as well, such as Boys II Men and Destiny's child.
“Then dun ako nag start mag lean towards to soul, RnB feels na kanta. Pero lagi pa rin nai-incorporate yung pagiging balladeer ko so naging mixture siya,” he said.
He added, “I guess that's why my genre is soul-ballad, that's why naging Kapuso soul balladeer tayo.”
For Garret, the greatest achievement he would want to have as a musician is to be able to perform and be recognized internationally and represent the country “in a worldwide audience.”
“I want to be known internationally not just because I want to be known, pero gusto kong idala 'yung - kasi I'm half American, I'm half Filipino, pero ang pinaka-root ko talaga is Pinoy ako so I'd like to share our music, my music, sa ibang panig pa ng mundo,” he added.
