Young singer Gwyneth Dorado is happy that live gigs are slowly going back to normal.
Recently, the Asia's Got Talent alumna landed a couple of regular gigs at RJ Bistro at Dusit Hotel in Makati City and Take Over Lounge in Quezon City.
“It was pretty overwhelming kasi kitang-kita mo yung mga tao from the stage. Pero I really enjoyed it kasi nakikita ko nag-ja-jam sila. It's a pretty good feeling kahit na you're so nervous noong una. You just get to enjoy once you're there,” she recalled her first show at RJ Bistro during a Zoom interview withGMANetwork.com and other select entertainment media recently.
At age 18, some would expect Gwyneth to perform mostly pop songs. However, during her gigs, the teenage music artist, with the help of her management Virtual Playground, carefully chose songs that are older.
She said, “Inaral ko po siya and kasi yung audience kasi nasa 30s, 40s, so we had to choose songs na around '70s and '80s. Mayroon na po akong alam na agad but there are other songs na talagang kailangan ko pong aralin.”
Her repertoire included classic OPMs such as “Bato sa Buhangin” by Cinderella and “Buhay ng Buhay Ko” by Leah Navarro.
Aside from considering her usual audience, Gwyneth also noted how much she appreciates the creation of these songs.
“Before I'm not really into classic songs, mga naririnig ko lang sa radio sa taxi po. But I saw kung paano gawin yung lyric back in the day and I saw na very expressive po, actually, how the song were made. Sobrang naging learning experience para sa akin to express not only through notes but through lyrics din,” she stated.
While she enjoys performing classic songs, the “Tulala” singer clarified that her upcoming original songs will cater to younger audiences.
“I do plan to make songs na makaka-relate din ang Gen Zs. Pero my producer right now, which I really adore, sa lahat ng songs na ginawa namin, super Gen Z, so I hope magustuhan din po nila. Hopefully, kahit millennial or Gen Zs, sana magustuhan din nila,” she told GMANetwork.com.
Meanwhile, Gwyneth said she's satisfied with how her showbiz career develops, eight years since her stint on Asia's Got Talent.
“Well, I would say hindi [mabagal] kasi parang trabaho lang ang music para sa akin. Music, for me, is pahinga ko po. So, whenever I need to rest, music lang po talaga ang tinatakbuhan ko.
“Hindi po ako napapagod. Napapagod lang po ako sa pagsabay ng school at career, pero it's really worth it pagdating sa career. I would say na hindi po ako nababagalan dahil over the years naging busy din po ako, actually, just under the radar,” said Gwyneth.
Aside from music, the young music artist also mentioned plans of doing acting projects.
“May mga scripts din po akong binabasa,” she said.
When asked what she sees about her future, Gwyneth answered, “Honestly, still in showbiz po. I'm hoping to venture into more theater po. Talagang love ko ang theater since nag-start ako sa Annie.
“I know theater, hindi pa siya masyadong known dito sa Philippines but I do have a mission for it to be known. Hopefully, magiging known po siya kasi recently, yung Ang Huling El Bimbo, naging sikat siya and progressing. I'm pretty sure in the future mas maa-appreciate ng mga tao yung arts.”
