GMA Network's groundbreaking show will be available on the giant streaming platform starting April 14, 2023.
The series stars Barbie Forteza as Klay, Julie Anne San Jose as Maria Clara, David Licauco as Fidel, and Dennis Trillo as Ibarra.
'Maria Clara and Ibarra' tells the story of Klay, a Gen Z nursing student who is apathetic about societal issues and even more uninterested in her Rizal studies class, a required subject for graduation.
She questions how studying the life and works of Philippine national hero Jose Rizal can have a meaningful impact on her future as a nurse.
Burdened by various mishaps from both her personal and academic life, Klay tries to pass off an essay she copied online as her final project but quickly gets busted for plagiarism.
Her professor gives her another chance and lends her his copy of Rizal's first novel Noli Me Tangere. Klay falls asleep while reading the book and suddenly finds herself inside the world of the novel. She desperately tries to return to the present but she can only do so after she finishes the story and learns her lesson.
While remaining steadfast and at times defiant, she is swept along the lives of Crisostomo Ibarra, his fiancée Maria Clara and the townspeople of San Diego. Klay also meets the enigmatic Fidel, who seems to have no traces in Rizal's novel but worms his way into her heart.
Join Klay as she takes lessons from the past to shape her future in Maria Clara and Ibarra, streaming on Netflix starting April 14, 2023.
