Asia's Soul Siren Nina celebrates the 20th anniversary of her Diamond-certified album 'Nina Live!' with the 'Nina XX' concert on May 9 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Pasay City.

The album Nina Live by singer Nina can be considered one of the most important milestones in her showbiz career. It was released in February 2005.

Aside from being frequently played on the radio, it was certified Diamond by the Philippine Association of the Record Industry (PARI). It is also one of the highest-selling live albums in OPM.

This year, Asia's Diamond Soul Siren will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the said album through a concert titled Nina XX on May 9 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Pasay City.

During the media conference for the concert, Nina shared her fond memories when her album became a hit.

“Every song na ilabas na ilabas from the Nina Live! album, sobrang tinanggap ng mga tao. Siyempre, alam naman nila yung mga song. But my version of the song… Kumbaga, ang tagal na nilang hindi napapakinggan yung mga song from the Nina Live! album.

“Noong nilabas ko yung songs, parang naging new songs for them. Kaya parang ang saya-saya ko every time na may nilalabas na new song from the Nina Live! album.”

Aside from this, Nina said that her fans also discovered that she actually prefers live performances.

She shared, “Parang nung lumabas yung album, parang doon nalaman ng tao na I love singing live more than doing an album. So yung iba kasi, parang akala nila I'm doing an album and all, pero hindi nila alam na before that, I was singing live and that's what I love to do.

“Kumbaga, 'Ay, ang galing pala niya kumanta nang live.' Kumbaga, nagulat sila na I'm enjoying singing sa mga live audiences, venues ganoon. Akala nila album-album lang. So, nung naglabas ako ng Nina Live!, nagulat sila na ay, ang ganit pa rin niya sa live.”

Until now, Nina said she still feels more excited about live performances.

“Surprisingly," she said. "Kasi syempre, yung iba parang mag-burn out na, nabo-bore na sa mga ginagawa na. Pero ngayon, every time I step on the live scene, parang bago pa rin for me. Parang gusto ko pa rin siya, nag-i-enjoy ako.

"Kahit may sakit ako, may nararamdaman, parang sya yung nagbibigay ng energy sa akin. Yung mga tao na nakikita ko singing with me sa mga songs ko, masaya sila, iba pa rin yung [pakiramdam]."

Although she has been singing the songs from the Nina Live! album for a long time and repeatedly performing them in guest appearances and gigs, she said she never gets tired of them.

What is Nina's secret to still giving the songs the right emotion?

“Always hugot lang talaga,” answered the OPM artist.

“I always feel the song as if it's my first time to sing it. Kumbaga, first time ko siyang kakantahin, first time ko siyang ise-share sa lahat. Kasi, parang may ibang sawa na or sawa nang kantahin yung 'Love Moves [in Mysterious Ways]. For me kasi, I'm singing it like it's the first time I'm singing the song.”

For her Nina XX concert, the soul siren will perform her Nina Live! hits "but with a different twist."

Joining Nina in her Nina XX concert are her fellow RnB artists Jay Durias, Thor, and Kris Lawrence. The show is presented by EchoJam and Synth X, directed by Calvin Neria, with Soc Mina serving as musical director.
