An afternoon soap getting primetime ratings! It was unprecedented but not much of a surprise. With a compelling love story and a great cast, Magdusa Ka is undeniably a small screen success. Text by KC M. Abalos. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio. Everyone is talking about the hot new show which is sweeping the nation by storm. We don’t know if it is because, for the first time, Katrina Halili is the “api” or maybe it is caused by Dennis Trillo’s macho dancing moves. Either or, Magdusa Ka is a certified hit. iGMA went to the set of the show and asked its talented cast how it feels to be on top. Dennis Trillo’s bad side was especially sexy in this soap and he seems to be enjoying himself. “Sobrang enjoy, ang kulit kasi ng mga ginagawa niya [his character Rod]! Thank you sa inyo kasi sa inyo galing ang ratings!” Veteran actor Gardo Versoza also thanked the audience. “Doon sa mga sumusuporta, sana patuloy nilang suportahan ang Magdusa Ka and sana kung meron silang comments and suggestions pwede silang magsulat sa iGMA forums. Malaking bagay din 'yung kumbaga para sa ikagaganda din and I’m sure gusto din nilang makita 'yung mga sinuggest nila.” Iwa Moto, who has been getting good reviews for her portrayal of the sultry Millet is overwhelmed. She says, “masaya sobra, enjoy! Masarap ‘yung feeling kaso nakakapressure! Isipin mo naman, kami daw yung pinakamataas na nag-pilot.” Iwa who was in the Sinenovela, Kung Mahawi Man ang Ulap (also a groundbreaking hit) is now a consistent cast member of the hit afternoon soaps. She must be doing something right! Her onscreen mom, Jackie Lou Blanco is very happy too. “Para siyang pang-primetime ‘no? I’m very happy not, not very much for me, but more for Katrina because this is her first sabak sa pagkabida and the fact that it’s doing well—ibig sabihin people have accepted her. And for all the other younger people that are in the cast because ibig sabihin na tanggap sila ng tao and that makes it easier for them to do any other kind of role and not just get stuck with doing one thing.” But if there is anybody who is truly ecstatic over the ratings of Magdusa Ka, it is its star, Katrina Halili. It is her first foray into being a “bida” and she is super glad that people have accepted the change. “Ang sarap ng feeling na tinanggap nila ako, ‘yun naman talaga ‘yung goal ko eh,” she answers then adds, “iyun naman ‘yung pressure sa ‘kin. Kailangan ipakita ko sa kanila na kaya ko.” And she has certainly proven to them that she can. The next question then is what more can we expect from the show? “Dapat nilang abangan dahil patindi ng patindi ang drama. At marami na kaming kilig moments dun ni Dennis. Kasi nung umpisa away bati kami. Siguro kung viewer ako, sobrang kikiligin ako sa character niya. Nakaka-in love!” With that promise, there is no other way but up for the show and its stars.
