GMA Artist Center talent and Miss World candidate Nicole Donesa is having the time of her life. Like in all things, however, there are a few sacrifices to make in reaching your dreams.
She shared with GMANetwork.com a few of the challenges she is currently facing.
1. Dieting, exercising and sleeping
Staying fit is one of the most difficult parts of being in a pageant. “Walang rice akong kinakain ngayon. Walang mga sweets na mga favorites ko, like cake, cookies. Talagang pure proteins and fruits and vegetables lang kinakain ko,” she said.
Aside from eating and working out (boxing and muaythai), she also needs a good amount of rest to give her a better disposition during their busy days at the pageant. “It’s important na marami kaming sleep na nakukuha kasi sobrang daming activities… As much as possible, kahit nasa daan [o] nasa bahay, nakakapag-nap [ako],” she added.
2. Managing yourself
Vying for the crown is no joke, as Nicole recently realized. It’s more than just taking care of your body as you have to consider your whole self. “Hindi ganun kadali maging beauty queen. Not only are you trying to balance your health [but] it’s [also] about management sa sarili mo,” she noted.
This experience is teaching her to trust and depend on herself more. “Parang lahat ng gagawin mo, ikaw lang. Like for example, getting ready every day, bringing your own make up and clothes, ganun. That’s one of the things I’m learning – to be more mature and be on my own,” Nicole declared.
3. Staying driven and determined
Although this isn’t the easiest journey, Nicole keeps thinking about the purpose why she’s here. “Gusto ko talaga maging beauty queen and matuloy 'yung advocacy ko which is to continue the foundation that I’m supporting right now sa Cavite where we do a feeding program and give free medications to the kids and the people because hindi nila kaya magpagamot or kumain ng mabuti,” she shared.
Being in Miss World keeps her driven to reach her dreams. “I know that if I were to become Miss World, matutupad ko 'yung sarili kong foundation one day, to give free scholarship to the kids who want to go to school,” she added.
