Why is Nadine not allowed to walk up a flight of stairs? Find out the answer along with nine other fun facts as the teen star spills her 10 things to iGMA.
You know that she’s from “StarStruck” and that she was the blue-clad “Super T” in “Super Twins.” You’re also aware (and quite jealous) that she kissed Dennis Trillo AND Dingdong Dantes in her shows, specifically “Mahawi Man Ang Ulap” and "MariMar.” But there’s still a lot more to know about Nadine Samonte, and most of them are unexpected. Nadine’s hair is slowly returning to its natural light brown hue these days, because she finally stopped dying it black, as she had done when she was still a new Kapuso. She explains, “Before ako mag-GMA, nag-Palmolive [shampoo print ad] ako [for its] packaging for three years. Kaya lang hindi na-approve yung product, so hindi lumabas, pero binayaran naman ako. [I had to dye my hair black] noong pictorial, kasi kailangan yun, e.. Noong [black na], sabi ko, parang bagay din. Pilipinang-Pilipina ako. So since then, lagi na akong nagpapa-black. Tapos lately, sabi ng mommy ko, ‘Tigilan mo na nga pagba-black mo, ipahinga mo muna buhok mo,’ kaya ito, bumabalik na siya.” #2: She has done five commercials! Even before joining StarStruck, Nadine was already into modeling, specifically for TV commercials and print ads. “Yung isa, Enchanted Kingdom, then Libresse [with Richard Gutierrez!], Nestle ice cream, Sunkist dalandan, and Palmolive soap [exclusively aired in channel 2].” Nadine shares that she found the Sunkist ad concept really cute. Here’s why: Male: “[Pahingi ng] ‘sang kiss [Isang kiss]?” Nadine: “Sunkist?” Male: “Oo, “’Sang kiss?” [Nadine gives him Sunkist dalandan] Male: “Hindi, gusto ko ng isang kiss!” “Tapos may eksena na ki-niss ko siya, hinawakan niya yung Sunkist, tapos tumapon yung Sunkist!” Nadine narrates. You probably wouldn’t recognize Nadine if you see the commercial again, because she says that they really made her look like a kid, complete with curls and pigtails! #3: She likes making MariMar jealous! As the back-stabbing Innocencia in MariMar, Nadine enjoys acting out scenes where she makes MariMar jealous, precisely because it’s something she’d never do in real life. She quips, “Hindi ako ganoon e! Ako kasi, pag gusto mo [yung guy], e di sayo na lang! Haha! "Actually, hindi ko rin alam [kung masama ba character ko o mabait!]” she adds with a laugh. “Minsan tinatanong ko, masama pa rin ba ako dito, o mabait [na ba?]” (Click here to see how Innocencia betrayed Bella!) #4: She dreams of an action-packed role! When asked to liken her dream role to an existing flick, she mentions Tomb Raider 2001) and Charlie’s Angels (2000). #5: She’s a Taekwondo blue belter! “Actually, nag-martial arts training ako noong bata pa ako, mga nine years old. Tapos nag-stop ako noon kasi gusto nila ako ipa-compete,” she says. To be promoted to a higher level [as shown by a different belt color], a martial arts student has to go through a sparring session with a partner as a “test” that he or she is qualified. “[Pero] noong nag-compete ako [for the] blue [belt], ang kalaban ko kasi [malaking] lalaki, so nasaktan din ako nang sobra. So noong next na competition, ayaw na ng daddy ko, pinatigil na niya ako,” says Nadine. #6: “Bawal akong umakyat ng hagdan” Nadine cannot do strenuous activities that could possibly aggravate her knee condition. “Bawal akong umakyat ng hagdan, bawal akong mag-cardio -- basta tungkol sa knee, [kasi] yung joints ko sa knee nagkikiskisan.” This condition has been present since her childhood, and although it doesn’t really hinder her from doing daily activities, she has one regret: “Naiinis ako, ang hirap [tuloy] i-trim ng thighs ko, kasi malaki sila!” #7: She has a LOT of offers to go sexy “Oo, madami,” Nadine admits. “Mahirap [magpa-sexy], e. Kasi feeling ko tingin sa’yo ng tao parang [laging sexy na lang]. Ayoko muna nang ganoon. Gusto ko madami muna [akong i-try] like action, drama, comedy, lahat na!” #8: She has around 130 pairs of shoes! You’ve probably spotted a few Gibi billboards already [Nadine’s the official endorser of the local shoe brand], and that’s why she has an almost unlimited supply of footwear. “Kaya lang kasi, nanghihinayang ako sa mga ibang shoes ko kasi yung mga hindi ko nagagamit nang matagal, [naluluma]!” #9: College is definitely in her plans “Gusto ko magtuluy-tuloy; sayang [nga lang na] kulang ng time. Pero maraming nagsabi na kahit konting units lang, [pwede]. Actually, gusto ko kasi mag-aral sa [school sa] Las Piñas, na pag nag-aral ka doon, ang diploma mo is international [na]. So maganda talaga,” she imparts. #10: She can sell pakwan and pinya in no time! During her stint in Kung Ako Ikaw together with Jennica Garcia and Ryza Cenon, Nadine sold pineapples and watermelons – difficult products to sell in the late afternoon as compared to the typical street food items assigned to her co-actresses [fish balls, banana Q, etc.]. “At first, hindi ko alam kung may bibili, pero natutuwa ako kasi [ang] maganda, ako lang hindi magluluto! Sila, magluluto pa sila. Alam mo kinalabasan? Hindi pa sila bumabalik, nakabalik na ako!” How’d she pull it off? With a big smile, Nadine answered, “Hoy, pinya, pakwan, bumili na kayo!
