Filipina weightlifting Olympian Hidilyn Diaz was inspired by online concerts to create her own online workouts that will help families affected by COVID-19.
The Olympic silver-medalist and contender for weightlifting has raised funds to buy food packs for hundreds of Filipino families affected by the pandemic.
According to GMA News Online, Hidilyn's food packages including vegetables, eggs, and rice, have been handed out to more than 400 families.
The food was purchased with donations from about 50 people who joined the online workouts that lasted up to three hours.
Hidilyn wrote on Instagram, "As of today, May 6, we have collected a total amount of P151,772.68.
"We've got some good news, we are about to reach a total of 393 distributed food packages. This weekend, we are sending food packages to 50 affected families in Zambowood, Zamboanga City and another food packs to 60 families in Masepla and Mampang next week. I want to thank @summitwaterph for giving out bottled waters to the affected communities in Masepla and Manila."
"For every 365 pesos/ 7.5 USD, you can help an affected family by surviving this pandemic for 1 week.
"I also want to thank God for giving this opportunity to inspire and give hope to our Kababayan in Cavite, Zamboanga, Bulacan and Metro Manila and also for sending people who help us to make this happen. Thank you donors for helping us."
In a separate post, Hidilyn also said, "It's okay to fail, it's okay we feel down, we are human after all. Athletes like me have failed many times, countless times but I choose to fight, to continue, and to comeback strong.
"We are in the middle of nowhere, I choose to give light, joy, inspiration, and hope. We can make it through. We heal as One."
