Paolo Contis

Paolo Contis discusses toxicity and respect in the age of social media in his latest vlog.

On Sunday, Kapuso actor Paolo Contis veered away from his usual comedic antics on YouTube to talk about something very timely in the age of digital culture: social media toxicity.

Paolo, along with his friends from V-Roll Media Ventures, discussed his assessment on social media and why it's important to use it responsibly in this day and age.

“Sa ayaw at sa gusto natin, social media has become a very important part of our lives. It has become a universal platform for almost anything: sports, education, entertainment, music, etc.

“But sadly, even vulnerable mistakes.”

The actor recounted his experience with “canceled culture” after he criticized a high-ranking official on his personal social media account.

“I remember recently na nag-tweet ang isang high-ranking official na I found na somehow, during this time of the pandemic, is very useless. I reposted it and said some insulting things which ang nangyari is na-bash ako.

“So, two things: na-bash na nga ako and 'di rin nakuha ng mga tao 'yung gusto kong mensahe which is because I was being irresponsible as well.

“Para sa akin ang lesson lang is if you want to say something and help, get straight to the point and stop with the insulting kasi babalik at babalik din 'yan sa'yo, e --- whether you are a celebrity or not.”

Paolo concluded that social media is like a double-edged sword because it has both favorable and unfavorable consequences.

“Alam niyo at the end of the day, it's not about who's right or who's wrong… it's not even about religion, political affiliations, or even about possessions. It's not even about you,” he explained.

“Spoiler alert guys: not everything is about you.

“Ang pinakaimportante ay respeto. Dapat matuto tayong rumespeto.”
