In a time when virtual setups are the norm, the team behind Limitless, A Musical Trilogy felt compelled to go the opposite direction.
It was a brave move in these pandemic times and something that amazes even its creative director Paolo Valenciano.
“We've worked on several virtual concerts in the past year. Given the current circumstances, we wanted to offer a new experience for viewers that didn't rely on the latest tech or virtual stages,” he told GMANetwork.com.
“We wanted to break down what a concert actually is and go back to basics. Real human engagement while still following safety protocols,” Paolo added.
The musical trilogy top-billed by talented Kapuso artist Julie Anne San Jose was designed to make viewers feel once again connected to the world around them.
“GMA Synergy wanted to produce a show that was very inclusive, something that would engage our brothers and sisters from other regions in the country,” said Paolo.
To do this, the team bravely traveled to faraway locations to flesh out the concept as they envisioned from the get-go.
“Since tourism and travel are still prohibited, we decided to focus more on the human element,” Paolo explained. “We recognize that these days, people need more than just songs and performances to help them get through their daily lives. We wanted to inspire our audience.”
Such concept, of course, wouldn't fly without the wholehearted commitment from its main star.
“I've always been a fan of Julie Anne San Jose,” Paolo admitted. “Her work ethic and dedication to her craft, and to her fans, is so refreshing and makes our job as creatives so much easier.”
Paolo continued, “Because of her character and undeniable talents, this endeavor for many of us in the team has turned into a passion project. She definitely deserves the moniker 'Asia's Limitless Star.'
Limitless, A Musical Trilogy will unveil the different facets of Julie as a singer, songwriter, dancer, actress, and multi-instrumentalist as she travels to the three island groups of the Philippines where she discovers new inspiration in unexpected locations in Mindanao, Visayas, and Luzon.
Dubbed “Breathe,” the first of the three-part online musical journey sees the Kapuso singer exploring the hidden gems of Mindanao and in the process, sharing her own experience as well as her discoveries about herself.
“Breathe” premieres on Friday, September 17.
Joining Julie Anne in “Breathe” are Asia's Romantic Balladeer Christian Bautista and The Clash alumnus Jong Madaliday.
Serving as the musical's musical director is Myke Solomon of the hits musicals Ang Huling El Bimbo and Rak of Aegis.
