Barangay LS 97.1 DJ Papa Obet just dropped his newest Christmas single, "Paano ang Pasko", on Spotlight Music Sessions on Friday, December 22, just in time for the holidays.

Aside from being a DJ on Barangay LS 97.1, Papa Obet, or Earl John Mendoza Ablao in real life, is also a singer and songwriter. In an interview with GMANetwork.com, he shared that the song was about celebrating the holidays without loved ones.

“Kung ano ang nangyayari sa atin tuwing Pasko, lalo na 'yung mga malalayo sa pamilya natin. Parang malayo sila sa mga minamahal nila sa buhay, longingness, most especially mga OFWs natin,” he explained.

He added that the song is about the longing of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from their families who could not get home for Christmas.

“Minsan natatapat pa ng Christmas hindi sila napapayagan so para sa kanila 'yung awitin na ito, most especially sa mga may romantic relationship ngayon,” he said.

This is the third Christmas song that Papa Obet wrote and when he was asked what's special about this genre of songs, he answered, “Napaka-magical sa akin ng Pasko. Kasi parang walang problema e, 'pag Pasko walang problema.”

He clarified, “Parang sabi ko, gusto kong ibalik ' yung spirit ng Christmas na nararanasan ko noon. Ano kaya ' yung pakiramdam?”

Papa Obet revealed that he does not feel the happiness he used to feel during Christmas when he was young because as adults, there are a lot of responsibilities that need to be prioritized first.

“Gusto kong maramdaman 'yun kaya gumawa ako ng mga kantang pamasko para sa sarili ko, maramdaman ko kasi kahit hindi Pasko, para lang sumaya ako, nakikinig ako ng Christmas songs. Nagiging positive ako, parang nabubuhay ulit ako,” he said.

He added, “May something magical sa Christmas song, may nanunumbalik sa 'kin e, may nare-recall akong ginawa ko nung bata ako kaya gawa ako nang gawa. Hangga't may chance, gagawa tayo nang gagawa para ' yung spirit of Christmas andun pa rin.”

When asked what would be his Christmas wish, he mentioned that it's something that he thinks that everyone would wish for this Christmas, too, and that is to be with their respective families.

“Ako siguro ang wish ko lang talaga, makasama ko ' yung daughter ko sa Pasko, 'yun talaga 'yung pinaka wish ko. Kahit simpleng pasyal lang, simpleng bonding lang, kahit isang araw lang, after that, ok na 'ko,” he said.
