A popular TV show in the U.S., Celebrity Duets, is now in the Philippines. GMA 7 brings us the only reality-singing competition on TV and gives us eight non-professional singers but notable in their respectively fields. Part of this eight is socialite-philanthropist, Tessa Prieto-Valdes. Text by Loretta G. Ramirez The mistress of style, Tessa Prieto-Valdes, has always been famous. With her elaborate fashion style and glitzy accessories, Tessa never fails to catch the attention of critics and fashionistas. This time she is once again in the limelight as she dips her hand in the world of singing. Fashion and Singing “Talagang 'di ako kumakanta! Zero! Kaya every week tingnan nyo na lang 'yung costume ko,” says Tessa, while laughing in the press conference of Celebrity Duets. She adds that she will try to win the voter’s hearts by giving a grand production number to compensate for her raw singing voice. Determined not to be eliminated, she swears that she will do her best to be in the final round. “Marami akong ipamimigay na text votes, hindi ito singing contest noh?! This is for charity, yan ang importante kaya vote TESSA,” she appealed to the press when the show was launched on the 17th floor of the GMA Network center. Promising a mega-production number, she hopes the judges, Apo Hiking Society’s Buboy Garovillo, comedienne/singer Mitch Valdez and composer Louie Ocampo will overlook her unpolished singing skills and be dazzled by her colorful costumes and jewelry instead. “Sa totoo lang kung may weight 'yung judging ng boses, sorry talo na kaming tatlo (referring to Tim Yap and Jessica Rodriquez-Bunavacz),” Tessa jokingly admits. Singing for a cause One million pesos is at stake in this reality-singing competition. The celebrity who will win may opt to donate at least 50% of his/her winnings to the charitable institution of his/her choice. Tessa chooses to give it all up, in case she wins the contest. “I decided to go all out for Celebrity Duets,” admits Tessa bearing in mind the large amount at stake that could be donated to her chosen foundations. Known for her philanthropic acts, it is no surprise that she would like to share the one million cash prize with three organizations, Gawad Kalinga, Assumption Mission Schools and the Sisters of Mary foundation. “For charity I will do anything,” are the powerful and firm words from an equally strong-willed lady who will surely take this challenge to the next level.
