Chito Miranda and Gab Chee Kee

Good news for fans of Parokya ni Edgar because Gab Chee Kee is now out of the ICU.

Parokya ni Edgar lead guitarist Gab Chee Kee is finally out of the ICU or the intensive care unit and is continuing his recovery in a progressive care room.

The good news was announced on the band's Instagram page on February 22, posting an image of Gab's hands holding a guitar.

“Hindi pa siya makakalabas ng hospital anytime soon, pero eto siya, nagpapraktis na mag-gitara para makapag-gig ulit siya para sa inyo!”

The band's caption to the post said that while Gab is still “far from 100%,” he is now recovering from pneumonia and its complications.

“Puwede na rin siya humawak ng cellphone at nababasa niya ang comments, kaya 'wag kayo magulat kung biglang mag-reply siya sa inyo!” the band said, adding a request to only send positive comments to aid in Gab's recovery.

The band's lead singer, Chito Miranda, first revealed what happened to his bandmate in January, saying that Gab has been diagnosed with lymphoma last year, and revealed that he has been undergoing chemotherapy for the past few months.

Despite the situation, the band's frontman assured everyone that they are doing ok, and announced that they will be doing fundraising gigs to help Gab's family pay for the hospital bills.

Aside from the gigs, the band was able to raise more financial aid through the auction of special items such as a guitar signed by all members of the OPM rock icon Eraserheads, a polo that Chito wore in the music video in one of their famous songs, "Bagsakan," and the puppets they used in the Halina sa Parokya album cover.

The band then expressed their thanks to everyone who helped, prayed for, and shared “good vibes” for Gab's recovery.

“Once he has completely recovered from the pneumonia and complications, he can continue with the treatment for his lymphoma,” they said.

They ended their post with, “Slowly but surely, gagaling si Gab! God is Good!”
