Dealing with the COVID-19 could be one of the biggest fights in one person's life.

Although the symptoms of the disease vary from mild to severe, all COVID-19 patients are in danger of experiencing anxiety and depression due to isolation.

This is why the Philippine General Hospital has launched an app called 'Tele-Kumusta', which enables the loved ones of COVID-19 patients to pay them a virtual visit.

According to PGH spokesperson Dr. Jonas del Rosario, COVID-19 patients' mood instantly brightens up whenever they get to see and talk to their friends and family virtually.

Dr Jonas del Rosario spokesperson of PGH

“Nakita po namin na nagla-lighten up po 'yung mukha ng pasyente, nakikita mo na masaya siya, parang nabuhuhayan.

"'Tapos gano'n din naman sa mga kamag-anak, siyempre, nagiging panatag ang loob," said Dr. del Rosario.

Through the 'Tele-Kumusta' app the PGH enables COVID-19 patients with mild to moderate symptoms to talk to their loved ones online for 30 minutes daily.

As of April 14, a total of 97 patients are admitted at the PGH COVID-19 ward and four laptops are dedicated for the 'Tele-Kumusta' initiative.

This 'Tele-Kumusta' app of PGH aligns with the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

The CDC and WHO have both advocated that one of the best ways to reduce anxiety and depression during the COVID-19 pandemic is to stay connected with your loved ones, especially for those who are under strict isolation like COVID-19 patients, since virtual communication can help people feel less lonely and secluded.
