Pia Wurtzbach

Pia Wurtzbach described her time as Miss Universe as “demanding, emotional, imperfect, and deeply meaningful.”

The 10th anniversary of Pia Wurtzbach happened a couple of days ago, and now the former beauty queen feels contemplative about it on her social media.

In one of the more recent posts on her Instagram account, Pia uploaded a photo of her with her Miss Universe DIC crown. In the lengthy caption included in the post, Pia shared that her Miss Universe experience changed her life in “real and lasting ways” but was also “demanding, emotional, imperfect, and deeply meaningful.” Pia also wrote that while she is no longer part of the pageant world, she still cares about “what Miss Universe can represent when it is done with intention.” Finally, Pia wrote that she looks back on her time with gratitude and expressed her hope that pageants “can continue to change lives in the ways that matter most.”

Back in 2021, Pia shared the mental health problems she faced after winning the crown, which include getting diagnosed with a generalized anxiety disorder and major depression. She also developed “unhealthy coping habits” and started self-harming, and it was the Miss Universe organization that arranged therapy sessions for her.

While she is no longer a beauty queen, Pia continues to be involved in advocacy work. Last November, she took part in the We Convention in Dubai, which brands itself as the world's largest forum for women leaders. Pia wrote that she talked about content creation and personal branding, as well as how she loves that social media gave everyone a voice.

A few days before that post, the NGO (non-government organization) LoveYourself announced that Pia will be one of the judges for the organization's Ripple Awards, which recognize “excellence in HIV advocacy, inclusivity in Gender Diversity, inspiration in Youth Empowerment and resilience in Mental Health.”

LoveYourselfPH is a volunteer community providing free HIV testing, counseling, treatment, and life coaching.

Pia involvement with LoveYourself spans years, as far back as 2023. Back in April this year, she delivered a speech at the grand launch of LoveYourself's Taguig center, which was also attended by Dr. Ronivin G. Pagtakhan, Founder and Executive Director of LoveYourself, and Hon. Lani Cayetano, Mayor of Taguig City.

Back in July last year, she attended the opening of the organization's new center in Davao City. The new center nicknamed Jefferyi is located at Door 2, Don Pedro Carriedo Building, Loyola St., Bo Obrero and just like any other LoveYourself center, provides comprehensive prevention services that include education, regular testing, and access to PrEP and PEP.
