Pinggang Pinoy

Here's how you can achieve proper nutrition during enhanced community quarantine.

It is important that every Filipino family remains healthy in this time of global health crisis caused by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 or COVID-19.

In line with this, the Department of Health (DOH) encourages everyone to maintain proper nutrition while under the enhanced community quarantine.

Planning the food of your family is recommended by the Health Department.

You can start by making a food inventory or a list of all the types and the amount of food available in your house. You may follow the First In, First Out (FIFO) method by arranging the food according to its expiry date, meaning you will eat the food you bought first.

Also, try to create a week-worth menu while considering all the ingredients available in your home.

According to the DOH, there are three principles of nutrition:

1. Balanced - eat the right proportion from different categories of food.
2. Varied - eat a variety of food (e.g. meat, vegetables, rice).
3. Moderation - eat an adequate amount of food, not too much.

A Pinggang Pinoy contains Go, Grow, and Glow foods and a glass of water (eight glasses a day).

If you plan to shop in a grocery store, the DOH reminds you to choose and prioritize healthy food and to store it properly so as to prevent it from spoiling.
