Titser and Bayan Ko

For the last week of GMA Network and YouTube's Super Stream, two Kapuso TV series will focus on those that place the country and duty above all else.

If there's one thing that Filipinos nowadays share in spades, regardless of political color, it's cynicism. And to be fair, who could blame them, us? We've had our fair share of disappointments and frustrations, that nagging feeling inside of us that we've all just been taken for a ride. That perhaps, nothing will really change here because everyone is only looking out for their own selfish interests.

But still, we digress.

Every once in a while, there are things that remind us that there are still Filipinos that can and will put the welfare of the many over the few, the ones that will not hesitate to sacrifice for the greater good. For the last week of GMA Network and YouTube's Super Stream, two of the TV series from the Kapuso Network will focus on these Filipinos - those that place the country and duty above all else. Check out these programs below:

Titser

The plight of our teachers is not a new topic nor an undiscovered phenomenon. We all know how overworked they are, the sacrifices that they have to do every day just to provide for their families at home and at the same time, fulfill their roles as our second mothers in school.

This series features a story that's all too familiar - an idealistic teacher who loves her students and would like to change their lives for the better, battles an entrenched system that seems to be everywhere, corrupting everything and everyone. Kapuso sweetheart Lovi Poe is the main protagonist in the series, playing the role of Michelle, a substitute teacher that tries balancing life and career at the same time. Her frustrations and anger will be yours too as you watch her face off against a corrupt and inutile system.

Bayan Ko

What would a young and newly-elected Mayor do to improve the lives of his constituents while at the same time, avoid being sucked into the system of corruption and bad governance? That's the question that will continuously haunt Mayor Joseph Santiago, played by Kapuso actor Rocco Nacino, in this award-winning television drama series that ran in 2013.

Completing the cast is the father-and-son kontrabida duo, Kapuso actors Pen and Ping Medina which play the role of corrupt Governor and Congressman. This television series would delve deep into the day-to-day workings of governance, providing viewers a fresh take into what's often a particularly stale and depressing subject.

These two TV series thoroughly destroy the case for broken systems - no matter how entrenched, well-oiled, or functional to a degree these systems are, they are still bound to fail eventually. Also, we should keep in mind that acquiescing or succumbing to these broken systems makes you another cog in the corrupt machine, an enabler that perpetuates the cycle.

Like Teacher Michelle and Mayor Joseph, you are presented a choice - will you allow yourself to be used by the system or will you use your position to break it instead?
