Rickman died of cancer at the age of 69.

The whole muggle world was shocked over the news that British actor Alan Rickman died at the age of 69 yesterday (January 15). Rickman, who became popular through his portrayal of Professor Snape in all eight blockbuster 'Harry Potter' films was first discovered as a theater actor. His family confirmed that the British actor has died of cancer.

The author of the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling, was devastated upon hearing the sudden death of Alan Rickman.

In a tweet, she described Alan as a magnificent actor and a wonderful man.

There are no words to express how shocked and devastated I am to hear of Alan Rickman's death. He was a magnificent actor & a wonderful man.
