Singer-songwriter Mike Hanopol is confined in the hospital because of COVID-19.
The rock icon was reportedly rushed to the hospital on June 10.
Fans and friends have asked for financial support to help with Mike's medical expenses.
A video of Mike was posted on Facebook on Sunday by Edgar H. Siscar, showing the former Juan de la Cruz frontman waving to the camera.
“Rav Mike Hanopol expresses his thanks to everyone for all the prayers and the well-wishes. Let us further pray for his full recovery from COVID-19 for the spread of God's word, the conversion of souls, the forgiveness of sins, and for the glory of God's holy name. Praise God for all His goodness. Alleluia. Amen,” the caption reads.
Mike Hanopol gained fame in the '70s as part of the rock-blues trio Juan de la Cruz.
The band, composed of Mike, Joey “Pepe” Smith, and Wally Gonzalez, changed the landscape of Filipino music, inspiring many bands from different generations.
A prolific songwriter, Mike is credited for penning the classic rock hits “Balong Malalim,” “Titsers Enemi No. 1,” 'No Touch,” “Kagatan,” and “Laki sa Layaw,” among others.
Mike also served as the principal songwriter for the Village People-inspired group, Hagibis.
He wrote most of Hagibis's memorable hits such as “Katawan,” “Legs,” and “Ilagay Mo Kid,” which he co-wrote with Eat Bulaga host, Joey de Leon.
Mike would revisit the songwriting formula he used for Hagibis when he was tapped to write the song “Lagot Ka” for the 2003 album of the sexy boy group, Masculados.
Juan de La Cruz broke up in the '80s as the band members pursued their own projects. Their breakup, as far as the public knows, was free from rancor and bad blood.
