Bea Alonzo

Bea Alonzo describes her travel habits and why she always carries empty luggage with her.

Bea Alonzo will be the first to say that she's no expert when it comes to traveling.

The new Kapuso star though has had her fair share of travel adventures over the past years that shaped her habits when going on a holiday.

Bea describes herself as both a meticulous and spontaneous traveler.

“I try to book everything ahead of time. Ako 'yong kadalasang taga-book ng mga hotels, na-e-enjoy ko talaga 'yan,” Bea told GMA Lifestyle.

“But may mga trips ako na spontaneous. Like I was supposed to be in a place for two weeks but [what I booked] sa hotel is for five days lang and from there hindi ko na alam kung anong gagawin ko,” smiled Bea.

Bea doesn't mind extending her stay at the last minute to explore a location that she likes.

“It depends kung anong nafi-feel ko nung mismong panahon na 'yon. If I feel like dito sa town na to I'm still enjoying my time, I feel na hindi ko pa siya na-e-explore enough, I would extend.”

She cited her recent US trip with boyfriend Dominic Roque a perfect example.

“Supposedly, one day lang kami sa Cambria [in downtown Los Angeles] pero feeling ko hindi enough. Parang I felt I still want to relax here, so nag-extend kami for another day.”

Bea's approach when traveling though is different when she's with her family.

For one, Bea's mother, Mary Anne Ranollo, might find it challenging to move from one place to another on foot due to her limited mobility.

“Lahat ng detalye bago pa kami umalis dapat alam ko na. Like kung may PWD [persons with disabilities] pass ba dun, are there elevators that would allow her to ride on, and meron talagang airport transfer kasi hindi naman ako puwede mag-taxi with them kasi medyo madami kami,” said Bea.

When visiting a country or a particular place, Bea tries to fit in as much in her itinerary. This also includes meeting up with acquaintances and friends in between.

During her last US trip, Bea finally had the chance to meet Dominic's aunt and former actress Beth Tamayo as well as visit a national park.

It was Bea's first time to meet and talk lengthily with Beth, who abruptly left the country in 2008 to stay in the US.

“Kapag nagfe-FaceTime sila [Dominic and Beth] tapos magkasama kami [ni Dominic], minsan nagha-hi, hello, pero wala talaga 'yong full conversation,” said Bea.

“Doon lang talaga kami nakapag-bonding. Very special siya sa akin because siyempre dati rin siyang nag-a-artista so ang dami niyang mga nakuwento sa akin na siguro lingid sa kaalaman niya tumatatak sa akin,” she added about her time spent with Beth.

“Merong mga realizations on my part kasi nga artista ako and right now I'm doing it and she's been here already. She's been through everything I'm going through right now, so medyo eye-opening.”

Bea too loves to travel light and bring only the necessities for convenience. But that also depends on the purpose of the travel especially if it's work-related like shooting a movie or doing a pictorial.

The weather of the country also dictates the volume of stuff that Bea brings with her.

“Usually, may dadalhin akong isang maleta na walang laman talaga para meron akong pagkakataon mag-shopping or if I find something nice that I want to bring home with me, or pasalubong.

“I make sure I save extra space for that kasi ayoko mag-excess baggage kasi nanghihinayang ako magbayad,” laughs Bea, who mentioned Switzerland, Iceland, Greece, and Vietnam as among the countries that she wants to visit soon.

Bea also avoids social media when she's on a holiday. She posts pictures on Instagram to keep her followers updated, sure, but that's the extent of her social media usage abroad.

“Kapag nagta-travel ako, hindi ako 'yong tipo na nagsu-scroll sa comments,” confided Bea.

“Because I try to be at the moment, I want to be present to enjoy the experience.”
