Guam proved to be a melting pot of cultures on this week's Pop Talk.
Host Tonipet Gaba visited some of the famous dining places in the island country.
His first stop was the Lone Star Steakhouse where he chowed on gigantic portions of TexMex cuisine. Among the dishes he tried were their Bone In Ribeye Steak, Shrimp Cobb Salad, Bacon Cheddar Burger and the Texas Tumbleweed--Lone Star Steakhouse's version of the onion blossom.
Next, he headed to the Pacific Star Resort and Spa which has an intercontinental buffet that highlights a different cuisine for each day of the week. Kuya Tonipet dropped by on a Friday when it was Indian food's turn to be showcased. According to the hotel's general manager, Roy Abraham, the Pacific Star Resort and Spa is the only hotel in Guam to offer authentic Indian food.
Kuya Tonipet met Filipino chef Darwin Esguerra at this next stop--Jamaican Grill. Here, he shared the famous Chicken and Ribs Platter and a Bangus Sisig with some of his buddies.
For some local Guam cuisine--better know as Chamorro cuisine--Kuya Tonipet headed to the home of Sharleen Santos-Bamba, a professor born and raised in Guam. She shared her recipe for Kadun Guihan, a kind of fish stew and Kelaguen Guihan, a dish similar to kilawin.
Kuya Tonipet also tried out a popular eatery Pika's Cafe which serves local food with a twist. He sampled the Tinaktak Burger which was slathered with a coconut milk sauce. The original tinaktak recipe is beef in coconut milk. He also tried the Chamorro Barbecue Sandwich and the Chorizos Espanot Pizza.
