Siam yum

When it comes to your favorite Thai dishes, you can't go wrong with Siam Yum.

Opened in 2019 as a food stall in Makati City, Siam Yum thrived in offering freshly cooked Thai dishes straight from the kitchen to your dining table.

According to its owner, Elixer Patrick Javier, his restaurant was heavily inspired by his many travels outside the country and bringing them home and to the kitchen.

He tells Pop Talk, “Siam Yum is a travel-inspired business.

“So, ako, I used to travel outside the country and one of my hobbies is to check the local food, pumupunta sa local market, at tumitingin kung anong raw material 'yung ginagamit nila locally.

“Na-inspire ako na bumalik dito tapos gayahin kung paano nila gingawa yung kanilang local food.”

However, because of the pandemic, Elixir (along with other new business owners) were forced to temporarily close down their business to ensure their customer's and employees' safety.

More than seven months later since the imposed lockdown, Siam Yum is officially back in the game by opening not only their dine-in restaurant at Maginhawa but also offering its menu items available for delivery.

One of their many choices includes a pad thai set meal that ranges from PhP 240 to PhP 290 only.

According to Pop Talk host Tonipet Gaba and guests Pia Arcangel and Chef Nathaniel Yu, for its price, you get a bang for your buck because you're treated not only with a tasty dish but also a free drink on the side.

Pia says, “Since hindi ko siya ni-reheat akala ko makunat na makunat, but it's actually not. So I'm sure 'pag ni-reheat mo 'to baka lalo pa siyang maging malutong. Pero masarap siya. Hindi man siya malutong pero the flavor is still there.”

Chef Nathaniel adds, “I think they really toned down the spiciness level to suit Filipinos. Kasi Filipinos, in general, gusto ng maanghang pero 'yung tolerable na anghang. Malasa rin siya. Mas gusto ko 'yung pad thai na 'to kasi ito 'yung traditional. Hindi ko na kailangan ng toppings.”
