Japanese food

Craving for some excellent Japanese food during the quarantine? Check out Sen-ryo, your newest food spot to satisfy those cravings

If you're an avid tourist of Hong Kong, chances are, you've probably heard of the restaurant Sen-ryo.

This premium Japanese restaurant is known for its take on the conveyor belt concept, where you can get the freshest sushi straight from the kitchen into your mouth.

However, here in the Philippines, owner Eric Teng ditched the concept for something more sophisticated and elevated, unlike its sister restaurant, Genki Sushi.

He tells Pop Talk, “Sen-ryo is a popular restaurant from Japan. Pero for the Philippine market, we decided to add a few more things than just sushi.”

Like most restaurants, Sen-ryo has recently eased opening its doors to the public by ensuring appropriate measures involving sanitary, and food protocols are implemented to maintain a safe space for both their valued guests and employees.

“During this time of the pandemic, we're not thinking of business. What is important for us is nobody gets sick,” Eric adds.

“So for us, we would ask our guests to wear their mask and face shields on before entering the premises. We take the guest's temperature, and we ask them to sanitize their hands. And when they are inside, they must sit apart. They are not allowed to sit close to each other, and we have partitions [in between guests].”

They also started offering a choice of menu items for those who are afraid of leaving their homes but would want to get a taste of that superior Japanese experience.

In an episode of Pop Talk, host Tonipet Gaba alongside celebrity reviewer Betong Sumaya, and Chef Jonah Trinidad, review three pop na pop food choices from Sen-ryo.

Here's a quick guide of what they ordered for your next craving:

1. Shrimp Tempura Udon
Price: Php 480
Pop na pop rating: ★★★★★

Chef Jonah Trinidad says, “Fresh na fresh at alam mong hindi na-tamper 'yung food. Meaty 'yung flavor at 'yung shrimp na 'yung pinaka-seafood mo -- it balances everything. Pati 'yung broth ng soup niya masarap, and it's so flavorful.”

2. Seafood Yaki Udon
Price: PhP 480
Pop na pop rating: ★★★★★

Chef Jonah mentions, “'Yung sauce niya masarap and 'yung noodles tamang-tama 'yung laki kasi nako-coat pa siya ng sauce. 'Yung seafood flavor lasang lasa mo rin in every bite.”

3. Smoked Duck Platter
Price: PhP 580

Sen-ryo is located at the Ground Level of The Podium, Ortigas City. They are open from 10 am to 10 pm daily. To order, you may call their hotline (02)791400181 / (+63)917-687-8733, or via GrabFood or FoodPanda.
