Hindi napigilan ni Pops Fernandez ang maluha nang mapag-usapan ang tungkol sa unang pagkikita nila ng anak ng dati niyang asawang si Martin Nievera sa dati nitong partner na si Katrina Ojeda.

Ayon kay Pops, malaki ang naging bahagi ng anak ni Martin na si Santino para muling maging maayos ang relasyon nilang dalawa pati na sa dating partner nitong si Katrina.

"Siyempre, it took a long time, I wouldn't pretend," sabi ni Pops sa entertainment media na dumalo sa press conference ng upcoming Valentine concert series nila ni Martin na Twogether Again kahapon, January 8.

"I don't think I'm gonna be a normal human being if ganun kadali, 'di ba?

"It took a while. Like I said, time heals a lot of wounds.

"When you see your life... For me kasi, I'm okay. I'm doing quite well. I'm blessed, of course, with my two boys. Parang nawala na talaga 'yung galit ko, kung ano man 'yon.

"The other factor is when I saw Santino, such a sweet kid..."

Sa puntong ito, naluha na si Pops at hindi na naituloy ang kanyang pahayag.

Maya-maya pa ay sinabi niya tungkol sa unang pagkikita nila ni Santino, "It broke my heart. I think that totally changed my whole... 'Yung pananaw ko talaga, everything has to be okay, and it is."

Kasunod nito ay ibinahagi niya ang masayang selebrasyon nila noong nakaraang Pasko sa Amerika.

Ani Pops, "I'm happy to say that for the first time, our Christmas, not quite normal yet, but somehow we made it normal, we made it work."

Sa hiwalay na panayam, sinabi ni Pops na naging emosyunal siya dahil muli niyang naalala ang hindi inaasahang instant connection nila ni Santino.

Aniya, "I love Santino. I'm just so happy that he also loves me. I think it's just that I didn't expect that we'll have that love for each other."

DIFFERENT CONNECTION

Sa kabilang banda, ipinaliwanag naman ni Martin na espesyal ang naging koneksyon ng anak niyang si Santino kay Pops.

Sabi ng singer, "You also have to understand that Pops only knows stories about Santino from me. She hasn't seen Santino up close."

Pagkatapos ay inamin niya ang kondisyon ng anak nila ni Katrina, "A lot of people don't know this but my son is on the spectrum."

Ayon sa website ng The Asian Parent, "Autism Spectrum Disorder is a developmental disorder that affects a child's behavior and ability to communicate and interact with others... Most kids with ASD are described as emotionally detached."

Sa palagay ni Martin, ito ang dahilan kung bakit espesyal ang naging koneksyon nina Pops at Santino.

Paliwanag niya, "I think, Pops can see the struggles that I go through and even his mother goes through on a daily basis. So, she now sees it, kasama din dun sa love niya kay Santino 'yung admiration of seeing of struggling in a world where everyone is different from him.

"And the struggle that he has being on the spectrum is a struggle of the parents and co-parents, she sees it.

"She sees how attached Santino is to her by my stories, by my paminsan-minsan nagpe-Facetime kami dito sa Pilipinas, 'This is your Tita Pops. This is the mother of Kuya Robin and Kuya Ram.' And he fell in love with her when they finally met."

Ayon kay Pops, nangyari ang unang pagkikita nila ni Santino apat na taon na ang nakalilipas. Paglalarawan pa niya, "It was an instant attraction."

FRIENDS WITH EX

Bagamat naghiwalay, tiniyak naman nina Pops at Martin na tunay ang pagiging magkaibigan nila ngayon.

"Like I said, ang dami na naming napagdaanan. Lahat na yata ng emosyon napagdaanan na namin, lalo na yata ako, napagdaanan ko na lahat.

"It's true, time heals all wounds. In my part, anyway, kapag naka-recover ka na, all of those emotions, you really just bury yourself and move on.

"Even if you wanna look back, sometimes you do remember, you never forget.

"But when you do remember, what I do is I really wanna remember the good stuff.

"I try to learn from the past, of course, the not-so-good stuff. But it's really down to just move on and really wake up na alam mong wala kang problem.

"Mayroon tayong problems every day, of course, but those are new problems that we have to deal with," pahayag ni Pops.
