iGMA listened in on the producers’ interview for ‘When I Met You’ para sa primer ng movie, at ito ang mga nasagap naming mga chika! Text by Jillian Q. Gatheco. Photos by Erick Mataverde. How it started Paano nga ba nagsimula ang dream team-up ni Richard Gutierrez and KC Concepcion?
“It all started when we were thinking, what if we put Richard Gutierrez and KC Concepcion in one movie?” paliwanag ni Annette Gozon-Abrogar, GMA Films President. “So at that time, we sent feelers to Star Cinema, because KC is with them. After long negotiations, we came up with an agreement wherein Star Cinema would have the first movie of Richard and KC, and GMA Films would have the Valentine movie of Richard and KC.” What is the story about? Roselle Monteverde of Regal Films gives us the premise, written by Aloy Adlawan: “What if you meet somebody better than what you have now? How can you tell your current partner, whom you care for too, about your newfound love?” Joel Lamangan, the director of the film, is actually not the original director of the movie. It was initially Joey Reyes. Ms. Gozon explains what caused the change: “When we were starting with the project, we already agreed that direk Joey Reyes would direct the movie. However, in the course of the pre-production, direk Joey withdrew from the project, saying that he couldn’t commit, that he couldn’t finish the project on time. So we had to look for an equally good and established director and thankfully, direk Joel Lamangan was free, so we were able to get his services for this project.” Modern Sharon-Gabby According to GMA Films executive na si Joey Abacan, kakaiba talaga ang chemistry nina Richard and KC. “'Pag tiningnan mo sila, bagay na bagay talaga. In effect, si Richard is the first leading man of KC. And ang ganda-ganda nilang tingnan. Parang Sharon [Cuneta]-Gabby [Concepcion] ng panahon natin ngayon. Well, that’s my opinion.”
KC will sing the movie’s theme song, “When I Met You,” originally sung by The Apo Hiking Society. “For the movie, KC was really asked to sing the theme song. But Richard recorded the theme song as well, and it will be included in the soundtrack by BMG,” pahayag ni Sir Joey. Kamusta naman si Richard as a singer? “Si Richard as a singer? I know he tries his best, but he knows he’s better in a lot of ways!” Sir Joey replies with a laugh. “But because he gave his all in this, palagay ko, kahit anong mangyari o maging sound, kikiligin pa rin ako sa kanilang dalawa, dahil si Richard and si KC ang kumakanta.” Palawan paradise When I Met You will be partly filmed in Palawan—a location suggested by its lead stars. “As you know, the first movie of Richard and KC was filmed abroad, so we wanted to have a very different movie from their first movie,” says Ms. Annette. “Secondly, we wanted to have a different feel, so we wanted to showcase the beauty of the Philippines in our movie. Richard and KC were very supportive. In fact, they were the ones who chose to shoot in Coron, Palawan. Coron, Palawan is such a beautiful location, and we should be proud of it, we should show it to the whole world.” Ms. Annette invites everyone to watch When I Met You on February 11, 2009: “[It’s] the most romantic Valentine movie of the year, starring the Valentine Box Office King, Richard Gutierrez, and Ms. KC Concepcion in her very first Valentine movie. This is a romantic comedy that will make you smile, laugh, and fall in love!” Huwag niyong palagpasin ang maaaring last team-up na nila Chard and KC!
